No Brand Con Puzzle Hunt

Nobody quite solved the puzzle hunt at the convention, though some came close, so we’re continuing it online!

Some small changes have been made to a couple of the puzzles to enhance clarity, but no answers have been changed.

Part of the General Store was a scavenger hunt where you had to locate 15 pictures of fictional thieves around the convention. Rather than force you to locate 15 pictures of fictional thieves hidden around the entire internet, I’ve condensed them into a single image. You’re welcome.

The first five No Brand Con 2016 attendees to email the correct metapuzzle answer to nobrandconpuzzlehunt@gmail.com win free preregistration to No Brand Con 2017.

Good luck and happy puzzling!

Volunteer at No Brand Con!

Online Registration may be closed (you can still register at the door), but you want to get into No Brand Con for cheap? Maybe even free?

No Brand Con is always looking for volunteers to help staff parts of our convention, and one of the perks to doing so is that you gain free admission to the convention if you work 10 hours or more (plus a free t-shirt)! And now, if you work more hours you’re also able to win more merchandise! If you have any other questions, you should email volunteering@nobrandcon.org.

DJ Announcement: DJ Amaya!

Notorious American J-Pop/K-Pop Remixer, Composer, Skilled Instrumentalist, and Producer, DJ Amaya began making waves when he started introducing audiences to Japanese dance music at anime conventions across the USA, which led to him playing shows in Japan, Singapore, and Sweden as well. Along the way he released 4 full length albums of original music, collaborated with Japanese artists, and has been commissioned to produce tracks and remixes for artists around the globe. With a career spanning over 15 years, it appears we still haven’t even seen his final form.

DJ Announcement: DJ Jinrei!

Andre Smith, better known under the alias ‘Jinrei’ (pronounced JIN-RAY), broke into the scene in 2005, working under the long-running promotion ‘Nostalgia.LA’ with his live mixing on vinyl. Jinrei is originally from Bristol, England, and grew up partially here in the US, in a Korean district of San Francisco where he became involved in Korean music, and then later Japanese dance pop, which was one of the biggest influences on his work. Later, working with other promotions and headlining DJs, Jinrei mastered his craft with everything EDM, from dance fusions to French house with Japanese/Korean original remixes. Having done shows with Cosmic Gate, DJ Amaya, ZEDD, DJ Diamond, Steve Aoki, and many more big names, as well as running his own nights in LA, OC, and Vegas, Jinrei has become a well-seasoned veteran in putting people on the dance floor, whether setting the mood lounge-style, or hitting the room with rare bangers for a high-energy crowd.

DJ Announcement: Liquid 86!

Liquid touched his first turntable in his Sophomore year of high school in 1999 and quickly developed a taste for Trance and House music. Liquid witnessed what many regard as the “death” of the original rave movement back in 2001 and upon attending college in the fall of 2002, all but gave up DJing. Though he ceased “spinning” events, his love of Electronic music in all forms never faded.

In 2007, Liquid attended his first Anime convention: NoBrand Con in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He attended their dance and for the first time in years saw that the rave and electronic movement had been reborn here. Over the next 9 years Liquid threw himself headlong back into DJing, turning it from a simple hobby, into a a full fledged business, spinning several geek events and shows all over the United States. Liquid is honored to have worked with some of the most talented individuals in the Convention Rave world to bring shows and dances to fans that they will never forget, DJing conventions all over the United States.

Guest Announcement: Brichibi and Snow

14 years ago Briana Lawrence (Brichibi Cosplays) and Jessica Walsh (Snow Tigra) were two fanfiction writing ladies who geeked out over Gundam Wing boys and Resident Evil. Now? Those fanfiction days have transformed into writer careers that ranges from published books, freelance jobs, and articles about cosplay and the issues that come up in the community. Brichibi writes geeky scripts for WatchMojo.com that focus on video games and anime and also has a cosplay column for “Twin Cities Geek.” She has had several books published: a supernatural murder mystery called “Treat Me Kindly” and a gay romance murder mystery called “Double Hue.” She also has a handful of short stories that have been published by Dreamspinner Press and has been featured in the book, “60 Black Women in Horror Fiction.” Meanwhile, Snow has had her work in Apex Magazine, and also writes for “Twin Cities Geek.” She’s also been noticed by Dreamspinner Press and has a novella published called “Ironbound Kisses.”

Together, the two ladies are working on a series of urban supernatural books in their “Hunters” series and are also working on a variety of erotic shorts for their “Devious Pies” series. They’ve also written a LGBT comic that is going to be illustrated by Arbitrary Muse Comics. On top of the both of them being featured on a number of sites for their cosplay and the issues they discuss, they’re featured in the book, “The Little Book of Big Babes,” which highlights one of their cosplay designs.

When going to conventions they always bring their best so that they can promote their work. You can get lost in their books, enjoy their crafts, or heck, you can come by for a hug and fun conversations about cosplay, anime, or video games. Always promoting positivity and always supporting one another, Brichibi and Snow are smiling their way through the geek scene.
